Fr John Pearson-Hicks writes...
I am the priest in charge of St Barnabas and have been in post since 2015. People often ask me about the 'priest in charge' title. It is almost the same as calling me 'Vicar'. How would I describe St Barnabas Church? A place of encouragement and service. A small (and growing) community where people can be as involved as they feel called to be. Women and men play an active part in all aspects of parish life.
We are fortunate to have an Assistant Curate, the Revd Theodora Jejey, who is currently completing the final stages of her training. There are a small number of families with children in the congregation, and they take part in various aspects in the service on Sundays. We have a wonderful parish primary school which welcomes children of all faiths and of none. Whilst the word 'inclusive' can be used in different ways and for different reasons, I would say we are 'inclusive' because Jesus calls us to welcome everybody.
We are a dog friendly parish too! A number of the congregation bring their dogs to services on a regular basis.
Feel free to contact me directly by phone, or email, if you would like to know more about parish life or faith matters.
If you would like to find out more about baptisms, confirmations, weddings or funerals or if you would like to have a conversation about what we do, please contact me directly using my email address john.pearson-hicks@london.anglican.org

I aim to update our website each Friday. If you would like to receive our weekly mailing 'News & Pews' email Fr John john.pearson-hicks@london.anglican.org

- Welcome -Welcome to St Barnabas Church, off Pimlico Road (between Victoria Coach Station and Sloane Square). contact details and map here
St Barnabas Church is an Anglican Church which is welcoming to all: come and join us! We have a number of services and events each week. We are a small (and growing) inclusive church community. Our parish has been ‘serving and encouraging’ people living, working and passing through the area since 1850. It is a beautiful Grade 1 listed church - and well worth a visit. We are actively involved in our parish school and with the local and wider community. Our Parish Priest (Priest-in-Charge / like a Vicar), Fr John Pearson-Hicks joined St Barnabas in September 2015 and become the ‘full-time’ parish priest (Sept 2017). This has enabled the church to be open to visitors more regularly (Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) and for us to be able to increase the number of services and activities which are open to all. This is a parish which seeks to serve and encourage all God's people. If you would like to find out more about baptisms, weddings, and funerals or if you would just like to have a conversation about what we are doing, please contact Fr John directly john.pearson-hicks@london.anglican.org to arrange a time to talk. Platinum Consort
have been working/rehearsing in St Barnabas for many years (Mondays and Fridays). The perform regularly - for more information see https://www.platinumconsort.com/ Chelsea Canines are accepting bookings for puppy training. See here for details on their website. https://chelseacanines.co.uk/ Bible Study For more information please contact the convenor: Amanda Wright amanda@londonarttherapy.com The Barnabas Bible Study group meets on the first Tuesday of each month - usually at the back of church. There are about 8-10 active members - Newcomers welcome. The group is currently studying the Book of Acts. Our next meeting is on Tuesday 2nd October 2023, starting with a light supper at 7pm. We end promptly at 9pm. West London Area TSSF (Franciscans) Since 2018 The Third Order Society of St Francis have been regularly holding their meetings at St Barnabas. For more information please look at their website www.tssf.org.uk. They gather next in St Barnabas on Saturday 7th October 2023. |
Regular Events in St Barnabas Wednesdays Said Mass - A weekly Lunchtime Service takes place at 12:45pm most weeks and lasts around 25 minutes. This is followed by a Bring-Your-Own Lunch. From 2pm the Barnabas Sewing Bees gather at the back of church - this is open to anyone who would like to come along. We are currently making 'kneelers' but you are welcome to bring your own knitting, sewing etc. Thursdays T@3 is a community tea open to anybody who lives, works, worships or is passing through the parish. We are usually open from 3pm until around 4:30pm. Do pop in for a cup of tea or coffee, a cake and a chat. Compline is usually said in church / online each Thursday at 8:30pm. Saturdays Book of Common Prayer (BCP) Morning Prayer is said at 9:15am in church and online most Saturdays. Open Saturdays We are usually open from 10am-1pm. Visitors wishing to visit at other times should contact Fr John directly. Sundays Church of England Mass is at 10am Melkite Mass is at 12noon The church is usually open from 9am to around 1:30/2pm on Sundays Heritage Covid Recovery Fund (Lottery Heritage Fund)
St Barnabas has been in receipt of a Covid Recovery Fund which went towards the costs of keeping the parish church 'operational' (March-October 2021). This included things like covering the costs of our insurance, some of our bills and things like the "kneeler kits" to encourage volunteers. Some of this can be seen on Wednesday afternoons - St Barnabas Sewing Bees. It has also paid for a new Church History Brochure (Church Guide) which is available in church. Copies can be posted. |
