St Barnabas Church of England Primary School
St Barnabas’ is a Church of England School, founded in 1847 to serve the local community. It has a long tradition of welcoming children from Christian families and from other faiths and those of no faith.
175 years and still going from strength to strength. The school celebrated its 175th Anniversary on 10th June 2022.
The school has 'outstanding' church school status and a 'good' Ofsted.
In Partnership with St Matthew's School
In September 2020, St Barnabas’ Primary School & Nursery and St Matthew’s School joined in partnership. Mrs Jewitt has led St Matthew’s since January 2014, but previously worked at St Barnabas’ School from 2006 as Deputy Headteacher. Mrs Jewitt began working across both schools as Executive Headteacher in September 2020 and is delighted to be able to continue to develop this partnership to enable each school to continue to flourish and grow in strength.
Whilst maintaining the Christian ethos and distinctiveness of each individual school, The partnership aims to:
Mrs Jewitt spends her time between each school each week and works closely with the senior leaders to provide the strategic leadership for both schools. Miss Castle is Head of School and leads the school on a day to day basis. If parents ever wish to speak to a member of staff at school, they should always contact the school office or the class teacher in the first instance. If parents need to speak to a senior member of staff, they can arrange to speak to Miss Castle or Miss MacDougall (Senior Teacher).

Over many years there have been staff who have worked at both St Barnabas and St Matthew's Schools, including; Miss Mayo, Miss Paramore, Mr Hicks, Mrs Faith, Ms Townshend, Mrs Charlton and Mrs Jewitt.
